Juanan Soria's exhibition project Archaeology of the Image establishes a dialogue between archaeology and digital imagery through painting, drawing and video animation, using stratigraphy as its conceptual axis. This term, specific to archaeology, is linked to the digital world by referring to the construction of images in layers —as in Photoshop— and the accumulation of information in networks and search engines.
Soria takes Iberian remains as his starting point, reinterpreting them from a contemporary perspective. The works analyse how archaeological objects are treated and contextualised according to the environment in which they are found, and how they influence the society that receives them. The project also reflects on scientific interpretations, possible biases and the incorporation of these remains into the collective imagination.
The exhibition addresses access to knowledge in the digital age, marked by the over-accumulation of data. Like an archaeologist studying layers of an excavation, the digital user selects information to construct meaning. The works offer a complex visual experience that invites us to think about the creation of images and selective learning in saturated environments.
In essence, the project proposes new interpretations of Iberian art and highlights its relevance in contemporary art.
