Husk Gallery is delighted to announce the upcoming solo exhibition with French artist Céline Marin in its gallery space.
Artist Céline Marin delves into the world of masked balls in her new series of drawings, titled Minuit Suspendu. The mask, a versatile object with various functions, allows wearers to momentarily escape their own identity and embrace a sense of freedom. Inspired by artists like Édouard Manet and Toulouse-Lautrec, Marin deconstructs the enchanting world of costume balls, exploring the extravagance and grandeur found within society receptions. Using visual references from the Principality of Monaco's sea-bathing society, the Riviera, and opulent events held by families such as the Noailles and Beistegui families, as well as Man Ray's photographs, Marin reinvents these ephemeral moments of splendour. Through her graphite pencil works, she creates a unique chronotope, where time appears suspended and identities blend into the mystique of masks.
