Peter Depelchin

In the year 2016, Depelchin came up with the simple idea of sketching his wife, pregnant at the time, while she was asleep. Every time she fell asleep during daytime, he made a drawing. Often, she was covered with a thin sheet full of floral patterns and motives. It inspired Peter to create this series of 10 drawings. At that moment Peter and his partner were staying in Athens. As she was there for work, Depelchin crossed the nearby Peloponnese peninsula on his own and visited magnificent Mycenaean and Greek sites, such as Mycenae, Argos and Epidaurus. In the centre of the Peloponnese lies the legendary region called Arcadia, land of the God Pan and hunting ground of Atalanta, the Arcadian princess. This vast country and the myths resurrecting of its fertile soil, made such an impression on the artist, that he imagined his pregnant muse lying in the Arcadian meadows, covered with flowers.
